World State vs. Savage Reservation

The World State is a world that is all about control of the people and environment. The motto is, "Community, Identity, and Stability". The World State also abolishes the love of nature. Most importantly the government controls reproduction, child- rearing, and social relations with one another. This environment challenges the emotions and desire in people. Everyone is equally important in the society. For instance, "Alpa children wear gray. They work much harder than we do because they're so frightfully clever…" (Huxley 27).  It's likely that the castes are kept separate for the sake of stability. This way there no complications from intermingling. Each individual can view members of a different caste in another way. They still all look the same in the environment to the government. 

The World State is very controlling and challenging to the envorinment. Sex and Drugs are very important to the people. Before the World State instability was caused by strong emotions. This is not allowed in the World State. For example, "Swallowing half an hour before closing time, that second dose of soma had raised a quite impenetrable wall between the actual universe and their minds. Bottled, they crossed the street; bottled, they took the lift up to Henry's room on the twenty-eighth floor" (Huxley 77). Soma was very important to the people and this made them the way they are. Everyone was into it. 


Savage Reservation is the complete opposite of the World State. The Savage Reservation is seen as a dystopia. The people in this society have a different believe of love, marriage, and family. They believe everything should be more natural, such as death. For instance, "And she would tell him about the lovely music that came out of the box, and all of the nice games you could play, and the delcious things to eat and drink…" (Huxley 128). The Savage Reservation seemed to be more of a calm place then a serious place. John and Linda life very differently from the people in the World State. 

I blieve that the World State is very werid and unnatural. I wouldn't want to every live in a place so controlling on the people and environment. It sounds to planned and boring to life there. I wouldn't like to be living the same way everyone else was and to not be my own person. Althought everyone is equal I would not enjoy being a part of a culture that way.
